I thought everyone knew this but anyway, the real reason for so many sidebars was that very early on the judge realized that every time Fieger objected or was objected to, it was going to be a very dramatic scene in front of the jury (due to Mr. Fiegers actions). So she required almost all the objections be handled at the bench to avoid swaying the jury one way or another. Yes, I was there.
