Author: Maglorius, Druid of the Wolf
Subject: Maglorius - Portrait of a Mage (Character Profile)

When I was a lad, my mother always encouraged me to read. I had a passion for facts, especially to do with the Arcane. How does magic work, why does it work, how can I create my own. These were all questions I pondered over.

I was considerd the bright one in the family, and my parents encouragement and words of praise fostered a love of learning in me. To this day, I still carry that love, sometimes to my detriment, as the pursuit of knowledge often interests me more than the use of it. This leads to me to always look to the future and the next adventure, leaving a trail of half finished projects behind me. This is a two edged sword, as I value knowledge highly, and can be prideful in it's ownership if others wish to challenge my knowledge. I recognise this flaw in my character and try to catch myself before I hurt others, but sometimes it slips through despite my efforts.

When I found the Rangers, I found a group of friends I could share my passion with. As well as being a mage, seeking ever to improve my knowledge of magic, I am also an adventurer always seeking to explore, to freely go where I wish to see everything there is to see. Without new adventures, I have been known to become bored very easily.

From these qualities, I see myself as a Loremaster, offering my knowledge to all who seek (and quite often those who don't) and as a scout, always wanting to rush ahead and see what is around the next corner, trusting my skills to ensure I will not ambushed, unless the UO gods deem it fit that I should be struck deaf, dumb and blind, while some little surprise of their making rends my bones.

I pride myself on being a trustworthy travelling companion. It is anathema to me to see harm befall a companion while I still have breath in my body. I will gladly lay down my life to ensure they survive. I have on occassion though been known to shout incoherently at those who will not listen to my vain attempts at keeping them alive, when they insist on trying to help me instead. In this regard I am a little two-faced in not willingly accepting help, when I ask other to accept it from me.

Similarly, when with a hunting party, I may overstep my bounds by voicing my opinion to those not following orders, even if this is not my job. I also consider adherance to the rules of fairplay as an absolute. Those who brook those rules get little regard from me. This may be my worst trait, as I can be like a dog with a bone on subjects that upset me, and others may soon become tired of my continuous ranting.

Those who do should be aware that I also value honesty very highly, and should be willing to speak their mind to me. If it is an honest and constructive comment, I seldom take offense and use it as a learning exercise to better myself. If however, comments are not constructive but simply offensive or derisive, I usually turn my back on those individuals and I will likely have no further communication with them. Those who I call friend should be aware that I do so in earnest. Tis a word I take seriously. Those who are not friends, I call nothing at all. I have little room for middle ground.

I am a virtuous person and uphold the virtues where I may, but they do not rule my actions as I will adhere to my own virtues when there is a conflict.

Finally, I love a good joke. I try to see humour in everything that happens, or find a chance to turn it to humour if all other hope is lost. My humour is occassionally sarcastic in nature, which others do not find humourous. Those who do not know me may sometimes find me rude, if they do not understand that I poke fun at myself as much as everyone else. My humour can also be subtle, and people will find me chuckling for no apparent reason, as they have missed the joke.

And so I stand before you, soul bared - a practical, often naked (as I refuse to be a slave to fashion) seeker of all knowledge, ever ready to see what lies beyond the horizon, and have a laugh at it, with good friends and companions. Accept me as I am or move on, for I will be who I am, and can be no more or less.
