Subject: 1998 firebird headlight door trouble

Have trouble with the right headlight door motor runs for a while after the door has closed. It makes a noise like gears grinding after it has closed. It does this for about 10 seconds after the door has closed. Other than that the door works fine. Need some advise if possible. thank you

hey buddy,
I work for a pontiac dealership in michigan, and I have seen quite a few of these headlight problems. To correct the concern you must replace the headlight motor that is making the noise. This has fixed the problem everytime. They are not to hard to replace, just kind of a pain in the ass with how things sit in there. Good luck

Save those old broken motors. I'll buy them from you.

There's a fella selling replacement gears for that problem, you open the motor up, pull out the stripped plastic gear, replace it with his CNC machined brass gear, lubricate with the Dow-Corning lubricant he supplies and re-assemble/install. A little over $40 shipped, as opposed to $150 for an OEM motor that will do the same thing someday. Link below.
