I need help!!!!!!!! My Firebird Is Dying!!!!!!!

I have an 83 Firebird SE with a 2.8 litre piece of junk v6.
Only 105 hp..... anyway there is a loud knocking sound when I just barely press on the gass, if I floor it, the knocking goes away, til the car comes up to speed, then it starts again. A few people have told me its either a bad wrist pin, or a bent rod. Its also goten louder in the last month or so. Any ideas? I want to swap it for either a 305 or a 350 small block eventually though. maby sooner than later. Im just woried that my tranny won't be able to bolt up to a 305 or a 350, and even if it does, will it be able to handle the power? I know I must sound like a newb but I need help! And the hokeys in my town don't know dick about Firebirds. So lemme know asap plz. Thanks :)!

what trans do you have (auto or manual)? if it's an automatic chech this out. the bolts that hold the flywheel to the converter may be loose. as for the trans holding up, e-mail me (badcam@team.camaroZ28.com)

sounds like a rod knock........ and junking a V6 for a 305/350 is common practice. But look at what kinda shape you car is in maybe cheaper just to buy a decent bird with a V8.

I was walking outside when I caught a cat attacking this little bird , I scared the cat away , But the brid is still alive , Ive tried to give it food and water but its not breathing properly..Ever time it breaths it opens his mouth..? Now is there anything I can do A.S.A.P.

I had something like that in my car, it's not a firebird but a 92 grand am SE(v6 3.3L). Anyway I took it to a repair place and they said that it was a crack in my flywheel(something inside the engine...I don't know that much about cars). But yeah, the problem I had sounds a lot like the one your having. Good luck man

I just bought a 1984 Firebird w/ a V6 and am looking to put a 305 in it. It has the 700R4 Tranny already and I just need to know what I will need & how to do a swap of this type. I would appreciate an e-mail of any info you learn or that someone could tell me.
