Subject: Camaro and Firebird gone be glad to have the new GTO

Alright listen up! I read some of these letters about the new 2004 GTO. This car is all we got left. GM plans to no longer produce the Camaro and Firebird. Ford Mustangs are slow cars when it came to these two cars and the new Marauder and Impala SS are too freakin heavy for drag races as a result of slow speed. Chevy's new SSR is only a 2 seat vehicle. Dodge Viper and Chevy Corvette are too expensive. Monte Carlo, Grand Prixs, and Grand Ams have a sucky V-6. Thunderbird's are slow and only are 2 seated. Most of us want and/or need 4 seated muscle cars. This GTO is right now the only 4 seated car that can run along Camaros and Firebirds, also can beat Mustangs in races. The new Mach1 Mustangs carrying 300hp are limited to 6,500 a year. To me the new GTO is a good looking car, but to a true car guy it's not about what the car looks like. It is the performance of the car or the engine. When we say the new GTO isn't a real true muscle car because it is foreign body that is a lie. Carrol Shelby took a British body style to make the Cobra and placed an american V-8 in the car. The Cobra is no doubt a true legendary muscle car and you can ask anyone that. What makes a muscle car legendary is the powerful, great deep throaty engine it had. Personally I wouldn't buy a muscle car unless it has a V-8, but the GTO is still legendary because of the powerful american LS1 V-8 engine. Now we know the Corvette LS1 V-8 is legendary. If the LS1 engine in the GTO is legendary,then why can't the 2004 GTO be a great muscle car? You guys saying the new GTO sucks better wake up. Camaro and Firebird are gone and this new GTO is the only affordable muscle car right now that can stand against other cars in it's class. This car maybe foreign or not aggressive looking but it will turn heads.

It's a good thing too because F-bodies were sucky cars anyway. Too heavy, too slow etc. GM failed to innovate for so long the cars had to be ousted. And no, Mustangs aren't slow. And what about the new Ford GT 40?

yeah, f-bods are too heavy, but they arent all that slow.

and yes, i have seen some slow puss-tangs, (and some mighty fast ones too).

the point is: a car is nice, a fast car is better.

i have a 79 firebird with a 301.... 4000 lbs, 3 inch stroke, 3.08s and a low stall converter doesn't exactly make for a ball of fire. but it sure as hell could be fast if it had a real motor in it.

so, what? are you a mustang/ford guy or what. bashing f-bodies on a site called "c6 FIREBIRD" screams ill thought out to me.

All I can say is the US is missing out big time, since Ford Australia has stepped up to Holden with it's new BA Falcon range, and has started up is Performance arm again (Tickford put together the tweaked Falcons XR6 & XR8 designs, now they do the Mustung right hand drive re-engineering).

This is the specs for the new Ford Perfance Vehicles (FPV) the new HSV equivelent for Ford. And its in both the GT & GT-P models & the ute.
Engine Type Boss 290 - High Performance 5.4L DOHC V8 4V
Max. Power 290kW@5,500rpm
Max. Torque 520Nm@4,500rpm

This is only the start of a new power war in Australia.
Ford vs Holden comparison.
Standard 6 - Ford (Staright6) 182kW(up 30+) & 380Nm, Holden(V6) 152kW & 305Nm.
Mod 6 - Ford (Turbo 6 in XR6) 240kW, Holden (Supercharged 6) 171kW
Std V8 - Ford 220kW & 470Nm, Holden 235kW & 465Nm
Perf V8 - Ford (XR8) 260kW & 500Nm, FPV-(TS-250) 250kW & 500Nm, Holden(HSV) 260kW & 475Nm.
Top V8 - FPV (GT/GT-P) 290kW & 520Nm, HSV (GTSmodels) 300kW & 510Nm.

And there there is that HRT427 that has gone well over the top if it gets a commercial buid run. (The last power war ended when Ford started getting stupid, only now both have gone past those levels of around 30 years ago)

Note these are the new Falcon range specs Holden has yet to come out with their new engines only a body update really occured with the new VY serries, but they are bound to boost the power of the supercharged V6 and maybe the V6 as well to meet Ford.

Australia is the only country that is making low volume large RWD cars so don't be surprised if you see more of them since GM has now dropped large RWD family cars, and most US Fords are now FWD.

Last I checked Commodore was 1 in sales, how is that low volume??? How do you explain the BOSS 290 powered Falcon GTP barley being competitive with the Clubsport even? The HRT 427 has gone to limited production..... FORD will always follow holden, why give a company loyalty when they cut their V8 program? Holden has built the only australian V8 engine and won bathurst with it many times against the american imported trans am syle engines.

Call it forign but Fbodys are made in canada, little to knowledge of many. Australia is just like canada, infact australia had its own muscle cars, yeah muscle cars they didn't get crippled by the gas crisis either so they never stopped pumping V8 sedans like we did. Infact when our engines started getting lame with anti dieseling solenoids and early emissions systems they built their own engines they had 270hp V8 sedans in the 80s.

Some of you young guy don't know what a real muscle car is.The only real muscle cars were made back in the late 60's and 70's. this car was the LS6 chev malibu this car came from the factory with 11.1 piston and open chamber head a turbo four hundred tranny with four ten in the rear end. The car also came with opitional engine that produce 500 hundred horse power. Oh by the way ponitic did make some great cars starting with the tran am they came with a 400 engine that could real get some where. And i do belive that buick built a car in 1987 that was six banger that could out run mustang and camaro, this car was call the grand national. So if you want a true muscle cars you should go old school.
