Subject: 2004 GTO

I happened to stumble onto this site, looking at Pontiac related articles. Some people are very enthusiastic about the 2004 GTO. Some are completely mislead, and dillusional. We had Mr. Jim Wangers, the "Godfather of the GTO" and Mr. John Sawruk, Pontiac Engineer (retired summer '02), consultant to Mr. Lutz for the 2004 GTO at our 20th Annual Pontiac Oakland GMC Show. At the time of the lecture with these great men, some information was available...some was not. First off the new GTO is based off the Holden Manero, not a GRAND AM. The Holden manero has had a GTO model for quite some time now in Australia. The new platform will be all Pontiacs design. It will no longer have a corporate Chevy motor, it will be Pontiacs sole motor design. The absence of the "traditional" hood scoops will not be available in 2004, due to design licensing and time constraints. But very hopeful in the 2005 model. The GTO will also be a true 2+2 car. Two buckets in the front, and two bucket style seats in the back. A concept was also brought up of the doors on both sides opening up far enough to the back to allow rear passengers access, without having to push the front seats forward. Not sure on the progress of that concept? I in no way claim to be "all knowing" on the new 2004 GTO. There will always be conflict on the pros and cons of the '04 GTO. It will however, be the fastest production GTO to come off the line. Feel free to see our club website at www.geocities.com/poay2k/POA.html or contact me at TruelyPMD@aol.com. Would love to talk Pontiac with you, and tell you about the laregest 1 day Pontiac show in the country! ---Shawn POA President 2003
