Subject: GTO

My DAD ownes a 1969 GTO, and it looks just like the day he
bought it. I love that car! What speed, fun, and excitment
I had driving with my Dad in his GTO. A GTO is a muscle car
that looks fantastic, I hope that when they decide to bring
it back, they do it right!!!!!!!! I would love to buy one,
but I know the price will be outrageous! I just hope it
looks like a cut streamlined version of the great 1960's
cars. Just think my Father paid $4,000.00 or so for his
GTO, now look at what they will be asking. It's a shame.

It going to have a high price tag that for sure. I believe that the GTO concept car will have some styling influence on the 2004 Pontiac GTO. Pontiac has always been careful about bringing back the GTO.

There were several occasion where there was talk about using the GTO name on a car, but in the end the car wasn't good enough for the GTO name. Nothing short of 2 doors, V8, and RWD is good enough for the GTO. Of course, it could be argued that nothing since 1974 is good enough to be called the GTO.

How ignorant are you they already make the GTO its an australian car known as the holden monaro. holden which have been making 300hp rwd muscle cars for the last 25 years and never frogot its roots. www.hsv.com.au tell me what you think instead of being typical close minded yankee.

I am already aware of the HSV GTO. I am also aware that the Pontiac GTO will be based off the Monaro.

But perhaps you do not know that Pontiac GTO first appeared in 1964 as a option on the Pontiac Lemans and became a seperate model in 1966. From 1964 till the last year it was produced in 1974, nothing less then a V8 that was placed under the hood of the GTOs. These GTOs are now highly prized among Auto Enthusiasts.

I have noticed that you have been jumping to conclusion and flaming other people on this board. All that I can say is that it make you look like an ass when you do that.

You talk tought wonder if you do in person? But anyway after my review of the GTO and the GTS on the website you mentioned, I found that the current Firebird with the ram air option is a faster car, at a more reasonable price! No wonder why none of us closed minded yankee's have heard of it.I am happy that we yankee's are resurecting the GTO, I am sure we will make the nessisary improvments for the car to live up to the name GTO.

you arent too good at maths are you. The aussie HSV GTO has 342 horse power compared to firebird with ram air at 325 HP. The HSV GTS has 402 HP and has been compared to the BMW M5 by british car mag CAR.So the rest of the world knows about it, it must be just Americans who have no idea there is such thing as the rest of the world and get suprised when theres someone making something better out there. It runs mid 13's down the quarter mile which is heaps faster that the firebird. How stupid are you! You pay extra because it has "build quality", that mythical thing american car makers dont know exists.

I have to agree with ya on that one, latley the big three haven't been making much of anything to brag about, it is getting pretty crappy isn't it.

To OZls1:
How offensive are you (VERY) they already make the GTO (ABOUT 180 SOLD - BIG DEAL) its an australian car known as the holden monaro (WRONG, ITS REGISTERED BRAND/MODEL IS 'HSV GTO COUPE', NOT HOLDEN MONARO - FOOL) holden which have been making 300hp rwd muscle cars for the last 25 years and never "frogot" its roots (WRONG AGAIN OZls1, BARELY HAD TIME TO PUT DOWN ROOTS. 1ST 300HP HOLDEN = 1969 HT MONARO, 2ND = '70 HG MONARO, 3RD 300HP CAR BADGED AS HOLDEN = 2002 MONARO ... BIT OF A GAP THERE, EH?) tell me what you think instead of being a typical close minded yankee (I'M NOT CLOSE-MINDED NOR A YANKEE, HERE AS AN AUSSIE IS WHAT I THINK OF YOU:- YOU'RE A RUDE IMMATURE SNOT-NOSED FOUL-MINDED IGNORANT LITTLE KNOW-IT-ALL BRAT WITH A BIG MOUTH YET SMALL BRAIN WHO PROBABLY PLAYS WITH TOY CARS UNDER THE SHEETS OR AT BEST OWNS A CLAPPED-OUT 1978 VB COMMODORE UNDER FINANCE AND WHO DOESN'T BY ANY MEASURE KNOW HOW TO CONDUCT HIMSELF OR REPRESENT HIS COUNTRY IN AN INTERNATIONAL FORUM) ... !!!

Apologies to our American friends :)

Good one Genius, like you said the gap between the HG with 300hp was in the later 70s a brigade of Toranas L31-L34 SLR 5000 made for bathurst then in the 80s was brocks efforts with HDT commodores they may havn't been 300hp but 250hp when GM and Ford were toying with 170-220hp camaros and mustangs who both came to bathurst with big names driving them but course the commodore won. Then holden special vehicals came and the VL SS group A road car 5 speed big brakes 260hp dual throttle body and later won bathurst 1990 against the R32 skyline GTRs sierras etc. Then came the commodore GTS/R and the rest is history........... Holden told Detroit to leave it alone and look who is the most successful and motorsport driven part of GM.............HOLDEN

More of a genius than you, Junior.

So OZls1 you concede that your claim "Holden which have been making 300hp rwd muscle cars for the last 25 years.." is derived more from your pubescent fantasies, rather than based on fact?

Or do you? ... I'm trying to make sense of your rambling post.

Here goes!

>"Good one Genius, like you said the gap between the HG
>with 300hp was in the later 70s a brigade of Toranas
>L31-L34 SLR 5000 made for bathurst"

240hp L31's were not "made for bathurst" - This is merely the 308 V8 engine code. The 1974 homologation-special L34's in street trim were no faster than L31's. Neither made anywhere near 300hp. Both btw were about half a second slower through the 1/4 mile than final 6cyl XU-1's. I was at Bathurst to watch the factory L34's disintegrate down Conrod that year - they lost to Ford.

>"then in the 80s was
>brocks efforts with HDT commodores they may havn't
>been 300hp but 250hp"

Having myself owned the most powerful HDT Commodore model, a new VK 'Brock' Group A, I know you're guessing again. These optimisticly claimed 196kw (approx 262hp) .. still a long way short of 300hp

>"when GM and Ford were toying with
>170-220hp camaros and mustangs who both came to
>bathurst with big names driving them but course the
>commodore won. Then holden special vehicals came and
>the VL SS group A road car 5 speed big brakes 260hp
>dual throttle body and later won bathurst 1990 against
>the R32 skyline GTRs sierras etc."

Still no 300hp Holden ... ZZzzzz

>"Then came the
>commodore GTS/R and the rest is history..........."

History tells me (despite how you weally weally wish there were) that NO 300hp vehicles badged as 'Holden' were retailed between 1971 'HG' Monaro 350 through to 2001 VX Commodore V8.

>"Holden told Detroit to leave it alone and look who is
>the most successful and motorsport driven part of
>GM.............HOLDEN"

Get it straight! Holden is OWNED by GM .. they tell them nothing, merely ask. If generous GM/Detroit hadn't donated about half a BILLION dollars for working capitol and to retire debt to then-technically bankrupt Holden in 1984, as well as replacing incompetent local management with the genial American Chuck Chapman to M/D, Holden might not have survived.

OZls1 .. it is with an expectant sense of both awe and dread that I await your next inaccurate and facile post ..
