USD30-35k is how much they cost in australia. See you get what you pay for, if you wanna buy cheap FWD go buy a hyundai. The holden monaro (aka GTO) isn't a wannabe BMW its in a class by itself and it shows as holden is the most sucessful part of GM in the last 3 years cause they build cars for the customer instead of giving them what the company wants them to drive. The GTO isn't a step in the right direction IT IS THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Much as you perfer your Fbody it was dieing and finally GM pulled the plug on that POS. HOLDEN doesn't make gumdrops like that POS. The customers wanted a 400hp holden and HOLDEN made one the HSV monaro GTS and GM couldn't prodive them with that power (the LS6 was still in the design board) Chevrolet engineers told them to wait but holden said fuk off and had Callaway make holden a 402hp LS1 screamer.

IMO, what GM did best in the past is now being done better by the rest of the world. Affordable performance cars like WRX, RSX, GTI Turbo and VR6, Celica GTS, Holden, etc. are selling like hotcakes. These are mid-priced performance cars, very similar to Mach I, Z/28, Road Runner, etc. that made the American performance car popular. Only Ford has done it right: SOHC/DOHC, small displacement V-8, somewhat tiddy exterior dimensions, IRS on the Cobra, etc., and it will be sold next year while Camaro and Firebird are gone. This past weekend while driving on the freeway I was passed by an SLK, a TT Turbo and a Z3 in a 15-second timespan. Made me think, "gee, and all we have are the Vette and Viper, which are price-unobtainable to many if not most". Nope, if you want an SUV by American! GM does this well. So does Ford and Dodge. But when the SUV craze subsides (and it will, much like the minivan craze subsided) the American manufacturers will be caught with zilch to offer in sedans and sports coupes. I don't know anyone who aspires to own a GM car. Nobody! It's Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Acura, Infiniti, Audi, etc.
