PAPER #3, First Presidency Meetings (Community of Christ), January 9, 1979, 1:45 p.m.
THE IDENTITY OF THE CHURCH Page 2

"The message of the gospel is concerned with the deepest human needs. It offers no solutions for the problem of collective evil, the question of death, nor even a solution for sin. The gospel is the assurance that all is changed in Christ."

This must be why there is rarely any mention of repentance from c-not-of-c members. We are constantly, constantly reminded by them of Jesus forgiving the woman who was taken in adultery. But rarely, I can't even remember at all, do they also mention that Jesus told her to "go and sin no more". The above quote from the Presidential Papers says that the gospel gives no solution for sin. I think it intimates that Jesus Christ has changed everything by giving blanket permission to sin.

That would be a lie. Jesus Christ's sacrifice and repentance are the solution for sin. This is part of my testimony of Jesus Christ.

H-8 Interfaith Relations Committee Report

(H-8) "The most troublesome text for the Christian community regarding other religious traditions is to be found in Acts 4:12. This text makes exclusive claims to salvation through Jesus Christ and him alone. This text has tended to foster prejudice toward not only Jews but all other religious claims as well because of its exclusivity. This text is best understood within the context of the sermon preached by Peter in the company of John and others. It should not be universalized and become a framework for either missional or theological purposes."
