Lois, it borders on criminal insanity. I do not know who is more diseased and dysfunctional -- the people who are twisting the church into pretzel like this, or the people who are letting them do it.

If a man showed up at my house ten months after my daughter died giving birth to his illegitimate child and asked for her hand in marriage, I'd have him committed. This is basically what the hierarchy is doing here. They have been doing this for 20 years.

When Thomas Jefferson got the opportunity to buy the Louisiana Territory, it was queastioned whether he had the constitutional authority to do so. But it was a limited-time offer, so he did it. Afterwards, when it was proposed that an amendment be put in the Constitution to permit the president to buy additional territory, the people who were sane said, "If we ratify such an amendment now it means that President Jefferson had no right to do what he did when he actually did it."

By asking for official rules to be made permitting the hierarchy to ordain homosexuals and to perform same sex shacking up ceremonies, the hierarchy is admitting that the ordinations and ceremonies it has already done were WRONG, and that they had NO right to do them.

That's that unconscious knowledge that leaks out into the open by the actions of the people whose conscious/unconscious split has unhinged them. If Eugene O'Neill had known about this, he'd have written a play about it. More than likely one of the characters would have ended up dead. Nothing good comes of that sort of dissociation. It is way, way beyond hypocrisy-- it's insanity.
