George,

Surprise!!

Yesterday we started studying the sermon of King Benjamin in Mosiah Mosiah 1:38-130 and 2:7-50 and 3:8-21.

In the chapter right before this in The Words of Mormon, only one chapter, we see this. King Benjamin and his people had to clean up a mess of contention.

23 And it came to pass that after there had been false Christs, and their mouths had been shut, and they punished according to their crimes;

24 And after there had been false prophets, and false preachers and teachers among the people, and all these having been punished according to their crimes;
-----------

I do not believe that it is God's way, or the way of the righteous, to punish someone for their beliefs. False teachings lead to crimes, which are observable behavior.

The false prophets, false preachers and false teachers of our day are those who have masquaraded as spiritual leaders. They have taught the younger generation to ignore the commandments. One must feel extremely sorry for our younger generations.

Lois
