Lois, notice that the document below identifies the Community of Christ as having "almost a quarter of a million members." Since this is not true, but is merely propaganda rolled over from forty years ago, when the church was still Christian and actually had that many members on the rolls, it is likely that most of the rest of the "facts" in the statement are probably stretched to the breaking point as well.

The CofC has only about 114,000 members on the rolls worldwide. That is the number who still are officially counted as members. There are less than 40,000 active members worldwide. An "active member" is a person who has attended one single worship service in the last year, or who has made one single monetary contribution in the last year.

So, rather than being an impressive cloud of witnesses for the divinity of homosexuality, this whole thing turns out to be what most liberal boondoggles are -- a few self-appointed eltistist cultural jihadis trying to push their fanatic views on the rest of the population. Considering that the world has over 5 billion people, and the Christian Church is composed of well over a billion, the very divine opinions of one tiny church like the CofC are not evidence of change in the hearts of Christians, but of the same religious totalitarianism that used to go on during the Middle Ages. And combining the CofC with the waning apostate Protestant denominations of the NCC does not add to the impression of spiritual strength, either.

Note to saints in India, Africa, and Latin America: Don't think that geographic separation, or the existence of your own "national council" can save you from this. The propagandists of the CofC insist that the CofC is a world church, and whatever it does is going to be on your doorstep sooner or later.

In 2003, the person who wrote a letter (expressing disapproval of homosexualization of our culture) to the editor of the newspaper in Polk County Texas was rather shocked when I wrote him and told him that there was a mission of the Community of Christ only about five miles from his doorstep. You see, the problem is closer to home that the propagandists want anyone to realize.
