Lois, you have to understand that John can read. He just can't read between the lines. The above quote pretty much says that "Christianity as taught by the apostles is so bad that we are gutting it all, except for the name."
I find it paradoxical that a church that John says is "real" finds the gospel of Jesus Christ so "troublesome." I thought the whole idea behind the Good News was that there is no more trouble except for those who find it "troublesome." When they discover that Jesus said, "No man cometh to the Father, but by me," they'll throw him out, too -- but keep his name." I guess they'll charge him with being "troublesome," and tell him he can no longer be a member of the priesthood that is named after him, because he forgot to trademark the name "Order of the Son of God."
As a character said in the very old Anthony Perkins movie from the 1960's, The Champagne Murders, "in taking over a business, acquiring the name is the most important thing."
