Lois, it is spiritual discernment. Satan doesn't come out of the woodwork until there is no one with faith powerful enough both to spot him and defeat him.

Presidents come and go, but their appointees don't. Eventually the number of apostate, left-slanted extremist appointees will get to the tipping point, and then the agenda will crawl out from under the rock into the open.

After all, appointees to leadership positions come from the ordained priesthood. The leadership has been hard at work for the last twenty years to ensure that leftwing fruitcakes, such as homosexual activists, get into the priesthood, and conservative, bible-believing, God-fearing persons do not. To poison the water supply you have to poison the reservoir first.

Eventually all the conservative believers will age out of the priesthood, and they will be replaced with GBLTQ's and armchair Marxists. Then we'll start hearing that God created homosexuals on the first day of creation, prior to the creation of the angels, and that Karl Marx was the child born in the manger.

It's been done before. In preChristian times, some Pharisees rewrote Genesis to include the day the Law that they worshiped was created. It is unlikely that the CofC leadership will actually commit their redaction of the scriptures to print. The scriptures are like the "Employee Handbook." If policies are printed for all to see, then employees who learn the rules can gain mastery over management. If doctrines and policy are not actually committed to paper, then they can be changed at will to prevent the tables being turned on the leadership. Writing a simple, agreeable little commandment "Thou shalt not commit adultery" has repercussions when the priests and scribes get the notion that they would like to commit adultery regularly. Then they can't undo what they see as a foolish mistake. That's why the little children running around the Papal palace in the Middle Ages like John-John did in the White House during the Kennedy administration were referred to as the Pope's "nephews."

Don't you know the leadership deeply rues the statement made in 1982 by the Standing High Council? It can't actually publicly acknowledge ordaining homosexuals and marrying them to each other without running into persons familiar with the 1982 statement.
