John, I was a member for ten years, and I attended. Is that not long enough to get to know you before forming an opinion?

The entire problem with the Community of Christ is not the members in the outlying congregations. It is the big spider of leadership in the middle that is destroying everything. The congregations are just the bait; however, with the radical changes that have been made even in just the last ten years, the integrity of those congregations is going to break down from the contagion emanating from HDQ, and the bait is going to sour. Live bait doesn't last all that long in a toxic environment.

I'm certain that in 1942, a good Lutheran family in Hamburg could have written an American, saying, "Come and visit us and see what nice people Germans can be." And they would have been nice people, too. It's just the leadership that was the problem.

I'm sure that some of the sailors on the HMS Bounty were nice guys, too. It was that Captain Bligh guy who was the problem.

My opinion is that a person who lies and sneaks around and break the rules behind everyone's back, and then say, as Nixon did, "When the president does it, it's not illegal," is one of the lowest forms of life on earth.

I don't see the hierarchy of the CofC doing anything that Nixon wouldn't have done, when he wanted to accomplish something that neither law, nor popular opinion, nor the Ten Commandments allowed him any leeway on.

George

"Let me see... We're committing an illegal act to find out if they are aware of any previous illegal acts we have committed against them?"
Richard Nixon to John Erlichmann, 1972
