John, conspiracies are not necessary for the world to fall apart. All that is necessary is for the general population to abandon God. Most of the conspiracies afoot are set up to convince the population to abandon God; however, it is not the superiority of the conspirators that makes the abandonment move apace, but the willingness of the small-minded and unfaithful to do so on their own. The CofC is trying to keep a conspiracy going, but mostly it is just riding out front, waving the Jolly Roger, to make it look like it is in charge of something. Why? Because it knows that it doesn't have one minute particle of the faith required to convince the column to turn around and go the other way. For example, there are enough secular humanists and atheists on this continent to get same-sex marriage approved in almost every political jurisdiction, so long as Christians don't really care enough about what God wants to object. But it gives the Community of Christ leaders the warm fuzzies to think that, by selling their souls, they are playing a primary role in accomplishing this feat. Such delusion.

It's much easier to convince people that God wants them to do what they are already gung-ho about, such as sin and self-will, than it is to convince them that God wants them to work at behaving saintly, in the spirit of obedience.

I could go out in the street today with a "mandate from God" to convince alcoholics that they need to a drink to celebrate the goodness of alcohol that God provided mankind with, and put that on my resume as ministry to the bruised and broken-hearted. After all, alcoholics who have been fired from their jobs, and thrown out of their homes, and divorced by their unforgiving spouses are pretty rejected by society, but God loves them, too. A large part of the human race enjoys moderate consumption of alcohol, and it is gross discrimination to bar people who just happened to be born with alcoholic genes from sharing in this God-given joy.

And that doesn't even cover the alcoholics persecuted as DUI by an unforgiving and merciless state controlled by bitter and unChristian "MADD" mothers.

Ministry to professional victims can go a long time, because liberals are apparently far better at finding victims to exploit than oil companies are at finding oil fields to pump.

George
