I know what you mean, Lois. On NPR yesterday, I heard mention of a Muslim man who wrote a book called "Fear, Inc." decrying what he described as an organized campaign of Islamophobia. The commentator played a response from one of the persons he accused of spreading false rumors about Islam. The response ststed that Islam is the only religion in the world with a codified revelation commanding its followers to conquer the world and forcibly convert it, killing unbelievers. The commentator asked, "What's your reply to this?" The author said, "We don't intend to rebut every single charge; we only want to point out that there is an organized campaign to spread fear of Islam."

In other words, to the most important claim of all, the one absolutely pertinent to his complaint, he had no rebuttal. It would have been helpful if the commentator had pointed that out, but she did not, for whatever reason.

That's what it is like talking to a CofC priesthood member. Either they just don't get it themselves, or they do get it and think everyone else is stupid.

The most pertinent question regarding the CofC is that, if Joseph Smith, Jr. had been a perverted fool who lied about almost everything important, what possible value could the Restoration that he founded have? That is the question dodged and side-stepped by avid CofC priesthood members. They are like the lineal descendants of a spiritual robber baron. They don't like to talk about what they believe to have been his methods, but they sure like the money (authority) he left them. And when they are not careful, they get caught actually doing what they believe he did.

George
