John, are you suggesting that since the current CofC interpretation of Joseph Smith, Jr. (not "II") is that he was a pathological liar and chamelon con artist, that it is necesary and desirable for the CofC imitate him by lying its way into successful exploitation of the guileless? There are at least two different versions of the story about what the church was up to with the NCC. And both of them came from the First Presidency, so I'd say that they were as bold prevaricators as they suppose Joseph to have been.

It's not all that far-fetched, John. After all, you remain completely convinced that Joseph was an adulterer, based on testimony of Oliver Cowdery. And adultery itself is a kind of active lie, requiring deception to commit and continue.

If the NCC actually believed that whopper about Joseph Smith III founding the church, then that organization is yet another victim of the liberalist chameleon.
