Subject: More leadership and the homosexual agenda

Here is an interesting article from 2007 in the New York Times. It was about a Snickers candy bar commercial in which two guys accidently seemed to kiss because they were both trying to eat the same candy bar. The candy company withdrew the commercial quickly.

There are two interesting items in this article.

1. A lesbian "surprised herself" by falling in love with a man. Hmmm. I was under the impression that the GLBT bunch would not think that possible. After all, supposedly they are born that way and have no choice. Funny, it seems that woman was capable of making a choice. In my book (the Bible) we have the choice of whether we will commit a particular sin.

2. The Community of Christ (c-not-of-c) either was invited into the news article or interjected themselves into the news article. Strange, don’t you think, considering that the c-not-of-c claims that they have not decided the issue of whether homosexual people will be ordained and married in the c-not-of-c. It rather seems to me that Andrew Shields, World Church Secretary (of the First Presidency) is letting people know in the New York Times that the homosexual thing is "all cool".

A Kiss Too Far?
By GUY TREBAY
Published: February 18, 2007

After considering herself exclusively lesbian for decades, Sarah Van Arsdale, a novelist, not long ago found, to her surprise, that she had fallen in love with a man. At first, as she wrote last week in an e-mail message from a writer's colony in Oaxaca, Mexico, '' Whenever we would hold hands in public, I felt a frisson of fear, waiting for the customary dirty looks or at least for the customary looking-away.''

In place of revulsion, Ms. Van Arsdale was startled to discover that, having adjusted her sexual identity, she was now greeted by strangers with approving smiles. ''I felt suddenly acceptable and accepted and cute, as opposed to queer,'' she said.
----------

''We don't administrate public displays of affection,'' said Andrew Shields, World Church Secretary of the Community of Christ, a Christian evangelical church with headquarters in Independence. ''Homosexuality is still in discussion in our church. But our denominational point of view is that we uphold the worth of all persons, and there is no controversy on whether people have a right to express themselves.''

Journeying Toward a USA National Conference

BY THE USA APOSTOLIC TEAM

As a global Community of Christ, we share a common mission to proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love, and peace. We share a common identity and message that includes a common set of Enduring Principles and belief statements.

Q: Has church leadership already determined the outcome on issues of same-gender marriage and ordaining people in same-gender relationships?

A: No, church leadership is committed to discernment leading to the USA National Conference. This process will include spiritual practices, dialogue, scripture reflection, and study of credible resources that provide multiple perspectives on human sexuality and healthy, faithful, and committed relationships.

(O.K. Here is the funny part. I guess they had to say something since most of their names are in this thread naming them as homosexual agenda proponents. lois)

The USA Apostolic Team invites the church in the USA into this discernment process with no predetermined agenda or outcome. This does not infer that individual apostles do not have perspectives on the issues. It does, however, signal our trust in God, the impress of the Holy Spirit, and the collective wisdom of the US body to discern the mind and will of God on these issues.
