I hear you, Lois.

Was there any "common consent" involved in W. Grant McMurray leaving the church?

Was there any "common consent" involved in the First Presidency's 1992 decision to grant "administrative approval" for same-sex shacking up ceremonies to be held in RLDS branches?

Was there any "common consent" involved in the decision to ordain avowed homosexuals like Jon Hetherington and others?

Was there any "common consent" involved in the decision to announce that Hetherington and others like him would be allowed to keep their ordinations, even though the ordination was against the rules of who can and cannot be a priest? (Those are the same rules that Restorationists get locked out of their churches for allegedly breaking.)

Was there any "common consent" involved in deciding to rename the church?

Was there any "common consent" involved in selecting the new name?

Was there any "common consent" involved in deciding upon Steve Veazey as W. Grant McMurray's successor?

The answer to all these questions is a resounding NO!

In each case, the final decision was made before the matter was even brought up before the church membership. Everything that took place after that was manipulation of the sheep to get them to imagine that they had a hand in making the decision.

To the hierarchy, "common consent" is a sure thing, like asking a teenager if he wants to go to school on Monday. The answer had better be yes. Why even bother to ask, except to maintain the fiction of "common consent."

I'm sure that any devout Mormon will tell you that polygamy was entered into that church's official doctrine and practice by "common consent," even though the very real lack of "common consent" in that matter was the driving force behind the Reorganization of the church.

How we look at our history affects the decisions we make n the present, and ultimately affects our future.
