Lois, the part of the article you quoted included the following:

"And she shared the overwhelming consensus of the western Christian world that polygamy was an abomination in the sight of God."

This does offer amazing insight into the convoluted thinking of the Community of Christ and other "Gay Mormon" organizations.

The RLDS church completely rejected polygamy. In fact, aberrations in the practice of marriage were completely rejected by the RLDS due to the intense objection of Western Society to them. However, the Bible does not actually, specifically condemn polygamy. It seems to imply that it was a primitive situation that, mercifully, went away in Jewish circles after a while.

But the Bible condemns the practice of homosexuality from Genesis to Revelation. So the "Gay Christians" and "Gay Mormons," and whatnot, do not use the Bible for a benchmark in any respect whatsoever. Polygamy has absolutely no status whatsoever as an "abomination" in the Bible. Homosexual practices do.

Not only that, but polygamy is pretty much viewed as acceptable among most of the third world cultures the Community of Christ is trying to convert, whereas homosexuality is condemned and prosecuted in a lot of these places. In Western society, particularly among Christians, polygamy and homosexuality pretty much rank equally in their unacceptability.

So, what has happened is that the Community of Christ has elected to follow the "consensus" of Western homosexuals and the family members of these homosexuals that homosexuality is acceptable. This consensus is achieved by excluding from the community anyone who does not favor homosexuality.

Despite false propaganda to the contrary, the percentage of the population that is homosexual is about one to two percent. In the U.S. alone, that means that a very extravagant estimate of the number of homosexuals would be on the order of about seven million. I know that seven million looks like a big number to a church with only 40,0000 active members, but it is not a significant number when seeking to form a "consensus" that homosexuality is acceptable. The Bible is no help, either in promoting homosexuality, or in condeming polygamy, so it has been set aside as a "cool heirloom," like the Book of Mormon, nothing more. And the overwhelming majority of countries in the Western Hemisphere alone have a consensus that homosexuality is disgusting. In Canada, it cannot be told who favors homosexuality and who does not, because anyone who speaks against it can be fined, or jailed, because of the oxymoronic "minority consensus" that rules there.

The "Gay Mormon" crowd, including the CofC, are much worse off than the Mormon polygamists of the 1840's. It was only the Western world that was against them.

The Gay Mormons have almost the entire world against them. The Bible is against them. So the Gay Mormons are not only going to have to triumph over the world, they are going to have to triumph over the Bible.

I doubt that propective members of the CofC are told that one of its long-range goals is to "triumph over the Bible." That is another part of the falseness of the CofC that you have been ocmplaining about, Lois.
