Yeah, John, this pretty much parallels your assessment of Lois' situation. It's rather ironic for the ones doing the rejection to post "faith-building" scriptures of this type.

Yes, John, Joseph Smith, Jr. designated his son, Joseph Smith III to succeed him as prophet in a similar way. But the Community of Christ told the National Council of Churches that it was not so.

And what kind of epistle would St. Paul have written to the Community of Christ, when he learned that it ordains avowed, practicing homosexuals and performs same-sex shacking up ceremonies? If you cherry pick, you could make inspirational quotes from Madalyn O'Hair, and Mao Zedong. I think most people who see these lenten scripture lists of yours would be surprised to know that the Community of Christ pretty much views Paul in the same way that it does the other two -- only safe when very carefully quoted out of the context of their own lives and out of the context of other things that they said.
