Lois, Mr. Rogers was indeed more than two-dimensional. You never saw him in short sleeves, because before he became a minister, he was a very rough character, and had tattoos up and down both arms. These people who portray characters that are "kind" are multidimensional. Lee Marvin said during a television interview that when he was wounded on Iwo Jima, the hard as nails sergeant who bullied the service into sending him back of the lines for treatment was none other than Bob Keeshan. We know him as Captain Kangaroo. And Jesus is just as multidimensional.

On judgment day, those who expect to find Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans are going to get a big surprise. Or perhaps shock.

Sin has consequences, all right. Jesus has said that he is the only way to escape the consequences of sin. He has already done the work. All we have to do is repent and stop doing what we've been doing. When an alcoholic becomes sober, afterwards, he is still an alcoholic. He just doesn't act on that. Those who say that Jesus' atoning sacrifice means that we can all sin without any concern about it do not realize that that is like telling an alcoholic that as long as he goes to AA every night, he can drink "every now and then." Just because there is backsliding, does not mean that it's "o.k.," nor does it mean that one need make no effort to clean up one's act in the first place.

I guess that Paul's comment that it is atrocious for us to keep on sinning so that we can celebrate grace is ignored by modern postChristian players as often as the first chapter of Romans.
