Lois, that's unkind. John exhibits what is called insane behavior. He is fully convinced that he believes in what the Bible is really all about, and that we are ignorant and bigoted fools that need a pat on the head and an occasional milk bone.

His ability to rationalize away the inconsistencies in his beliefs are resembles the insanity of codependency The codependent spouse explains the neighbor that the significant other really needs to take 42 pounds of morphine a day because the significant other has a legitimate (but incurable) orthopaedic condition that causes pain requiring constant medication. Why the person taking this much medicine is allowed to drive and care for preschool children rather than being locked up under 24 hour nursing care is never addressed. Why, (if the medical need is legitimate,) that 8 different general practitioners have to be consulted to obtain these prescriptions, filled at 12 different pharmacies is never addressed, either.

Remember the homeowners' association rep who believed one minute that the individual homeowners owned their carports and were thereby required to repair them at their own expense, and then 10 minutes later believed that the carports were association property that could be accessed without regard to the homeowner's feelings has the same insanity. At the exact moment that these beliefs are held, the holder is convinced of their absolute truth. The holder just does not hold both simultaneously. They have some sort of function like a computer user does who can toggle back and forth between operating systems. The computer can operate both a parallel port serial scanner, AND Windows XP. It just can't operate both at the same time.

In John's case I simply wonder who is working the toggle switch.

Lois, I think the problem is that NOT following the Christ, as he has been known for 2,000 years has caused disruptions in some people's lives. Rather than get into compliance with Christ's way, the CofC has decided that it is going to get Christ in compliance with the GLBT agenda. It's called the tail wagging the dog.

When Hilkiah found the book of the Law in the temple, he brought it to Josiah, who, in horror at their sins of ignorance, immediately set out to bring the people into compliance with God's will. Nowadays, Josiah would simply edit it to get it into complaince with the way the people were behaving -- problem solved.
