Subject: Cavitation problem

Hello i just bought a Searay F16 with a 120 hp Merc sport jet.
It works just fine up to 3500 rpm after that it starts to cavitate, the engine is over reving and the boat whant go any faster (top speed is like 20 mph now). I checked the impeller and it seems fine, the wear ring is not new but it´s not that bad.
Any suggestions.
Thank´s

>Hi there
I have the same problem with my boat. In this forum I've seen suggestions to check the ride plate - the fit seems perfectly good on my boat. The impellar looks still brand new as well.
In addition, my boat will run for an hour or so without problems (except of course the "cavitation" at higher revs and the slow speed) and then cut out. The engine would die, and I wont be able to immediately start it again. If I wait a few minutes, she starts up without issue.

Any suggestions please
