Re: Its Binghamton -- loyal, Wednesday, July 16, 09:39:20am [1]
Very disappointing for us; exponentially so for Coach Dunne, I am sure.
Who on the roster rebounds and defends inside? Who scores up front?
Hope I am wrong, but "Hello 5-22".
Ouch!

Re: Its Binghamton -- oldtimer#1, Wednesday, July 16, 10:16:37am [1]
Loyal, you may very well be right although I think (hope) that we'll be better than that. Won't know what things look like for a few months.
Don't want to sound like sour grapes but IMO Sutton's addition would not have been as great as many fanticized. No doubt he would have started. No doubt he would have given us a dimension we haven't had. No doubt not having him is a big, big loss. On the other hand the key word was always his potential. Recently a list of NYS All-state teams was announced ( think there were twelve or so teams) and Sutton's name was nowhere to be found. Also check out the small list of school's who actually offered. However he performed at the Elite camp no upgraded offers were given. So I'm a little realistic about the meaning of his loss. Perhaps question marks about his injury caused Sutton to be overlooked but I've seen some of the players on that list and ... let's just say he wasn't there.
As I said, don't want this to be an excuse for losing him. He would have been an impact player for us but not the second coming of Bill Russell. On the positive side (if there is one), atleast it gives JD a chance to maneuver. If, as reported, Conley wants to come and if there are potential issues with our APR next year then JD has his options reopened. Sort of a minor positive spin but until Sutton decided our hands were tied. Don't know what Conley's status is but understand that the staff feels (rightly or wrongly) that Darius is an impact player also. For now, this is where posters should concentrate. No longer on Sutton but on Conley's status.

Oldtimer - Good take and summary of the new landscape. Guess I'll have to sit back and draw on sources and contacts from someone "in the know", to learn of where John's fallback strategy may now take us.

A Few observations. -- Peacock, Wednesday, July 16, 12:43:20pm [1]
On the bright side, if Conley is admitted there will be a ship for him next year. Because of pro ball in Ponce, we most likely would have a sanction next year.
Now Anderson is known to be a jerk who fancies himself a guru for the kids and I am sure played a part here. However lets not forget that his parents may indeed not wanted him to stay local because of all the negative issues that surround these NY ball players. Don't know this is the case, but Binghamton does not fit the bill as other than a nice campus there is only the few bars around town for basketball players to get into trouble. Maybe someone should send his parents the story on the Serbian who played for them and his the warrant that forced him to leave the country.
One would have hoped that he went higher, but he will perform in relative obscurity in mid state NY and will not necessarily see the development he needs due to lesser competition and also due to skill limitations will play behind an experienced 6'10" kid. All in all the status at Binghamton is far different than his original desires and what he was telling anybody who would listen.
With respect to Sludge's comment on Dunne's strategy, it will be very revealing, as I expect no further recruiting to protect against failure to accommodate Conley. Now another thing to remember, the iron clad agreement is about as strong as the paper it is written on and the negative issues about Binghamton will surface, much like the fact that Dunne's record over the last two years played against him. In this case don't be surprised to see Sutton make another retraction.
