*two years ago...*
"Momma?" Devil's Illusion called as he traipsed through the dark and lonely forest. While making his way slowly and happily on clumsy legs towards the Enchanted Forest, he had gotten lost. Now he was alone.
"Hello?"
A crackle of leaves sent Devil's Illusion cantering off towards the noise. "Mommy?"
"It's alright, little one..."
The foal had been afraid of the voice. So cold and unwelcoming. He had squealed then, but no one but she, the she-devil, had heard him, pretended to comfort him. And then she had carefully talked him into thinking that she was his long lost mother and had come back to get him, to care for him.
"But I have a new Momma," Devil's Illusion had said.
"She left you all alone in the forest, and I've found you. I want to... take you home with me."
DI had suspiciously agreed.
Once he had gotten through the forest, the she-devil at his side, he had realized where he was-- the Dark Side. His horror was too great. Memories of abuse raced through his head, and he was lost in a spinning world of evil. The she-devil had bitten him across the flank when he had refused to come, leaving a bloody welt across his small form. She had taken him, forbidden him to go back to the light. Warned him that if he left her side, he would be killed by other dark horses.
When a year had passed, Devil's Illusion had tried to escape the abuse and evil training many times but failed. He often went walking through the woods on his own, trying to find a path to the Light Side. Every time he suspected that he had found the trail of a light horse, the she-devil had found him and beaten him with her hooves. Nothing could make him angry, however, though he had been on the Light Side for only a short time. He knew that he would get back to Wit some day.
When another year had passed, the young colt saw that the she-devil was dying. He did try to keep her alive, but for what reason he did not know. The she-devil soon lost the strength to stand, to eat, to speak. But before she died, she had told Devil's Illusion the truth.
"I am not your mother," she had said, "but your mother's sister. You were softened by the Light Side when she took you there, and now I have hardened you. I have breathed the evil back into you, and that is what your mother had wanted. Now you will go... go and destroy what is good. GO!"
And she had died.*
Now, Devil's Illusion stood tall, muscular body illuminated by the setting sun. He knew what he had to do, and he would NOT obey the she-devil. He was home, and home was where he had wanted to belong all his young life, ever since the fateful kidnapping.*
