Subject: A suggestion for Season Nine, if we have to have one

Okay, here's an idea for what would, IMHO, be the best deal we can hope for if they do a ninth season of XF. I still think it would be best for them to end the show at the end of Season Eight (and would have been even better had they ended it after season seven) but that seems kind of unlikely.
First, CC and the Fox execs need to grovel at DD's feet until he agrees to return for at least eight eps next season. A combination of lots of money and appeals to his ego, plus maybe some offers to let him write/direct a couple of eps should do it. It might also help if the Fox execs sit on CC 'til he agrees to allow at least a couple of eps that actually make it *CLEAR* that Mulder and Scully are "involved"; DD is a shipper and has complained for years that keeping the MSR static doesn't allow for the character development he would like. They wouldn't need to lie when apealing to DD's ego; they could just state some basic facts, like that XF does *MUCH* better in the ratings when Mulder's on it than when he's not. I would picture most (not all) of the Mulder/Scully eps to be kind of lighthearted, in the tradition of "The Rain King", "Hollywood, A.D.", etc.
Next. . .did anybody ever watch those "Sunday Night Mystery Movies" that were on TV back in the 70s? The name of the show was always "Sunday Night Mystery Movies", but sometimes they featured "McMillan and Wife" and sometimes they featured "Columbo" and there were a couple of other detectives in there occasionally, too.
XF could go with that concept next season. They can continue to call the show "The X-Files" but they can alternate between "Mulder/Scully" eps, "Dogsbreath/Catspaw" eps, and maybe an occasional Skinner or Krycek ep. Those of us who are fans of classic XF and who, according to CC and my noromo brother, are watching the show for all the "wrong" reasons (like Mulder/Scully interaction, character development and a chance to drool over DD) can watch the Mulder/Scully eps only. People who just like scary stories and don't really care who the agents assigned to investigate them are can watch all the eps.
I don't like Dogsbreath, but if he's off doing his own thing and not interefering with Mulder and Scully in their eps, it won't really *IRK* me the way the current season does. I just won't watch his eps.
While it's not a perfect solution, I think it's the best we're likely to get. Comments?
