In reply to: duck 's message, "Well done to GA on her writing/Directing debut! (S7 spoilers -- All things)" on 15:13:09 07/10/00 Mon

well, what a shocker! :)

i would have to agree with duck on the teaser - it seemed to bear no connection with the rest of the ep. i hate to start off with this - ok, this is my only complaint with the whole ep - bear that in mind! to me it just seemed that the two storylines, one with mulder and one with her ex-teacher seemed very disjointed. i was stunned by the teaser, and GA must have known that would be the effect - but then the ep was about a completely different story that had no relationship. i spent the entire ep wishing the ep to move forwrd so i could learn and understand more, thinking it would reveal something about what had happened but it never came. i thought that was the whle point of a teaser. so it ended up quite confusing. watching it again, i could enjoy the story and see more into it, but its a little complicated for me to understand first time.

so re: the whole mulder side to it. i never take much pleasure in seeing mulder and scully not getting on. personally, i think there was blame on both sides. scully didn't even try to hear mulder out, but he was being a little selfish. but then the ending? i didn't understand how he can return and everythings fine again. i mean, i know scully had thought things through and had changed her disinterest, but there was no recognition or explanation. although i had to laugh at mulder's cap 'stonehedge rocks' - please!! :) and the scene on the sofa was nice. and yet again, another man tucks her hair behind her ear - what is it with that?!!

anyway, the main story (as it were) was much better, like i said, on second viewing when i could concentrate on it more. i understood it a whole lot better. re: the blonde woman - i don't think she actually existed. well thats my take on it. when she went into the temple, you never saw her again. i got the impression she was leading scully there. she also prevented scully killing herself. so i think she was almost and angel like figure, or supposed to lead scully on the right path. just a thought! i loved the whole idea of fate and coincidence, and the way it tied in with the whole ep. i liked the red headed woman - she had some really interesting things to say. 'things happen for a reason'. although i was a little unsure of the needing to slow down thing. does scully need to slow down? maybe she does.

as for scullys ex-teacher. i couldn't believe scully would do something like that! can't quite see what she saw in him either! not like our mulder :) i loved the scene when she's crying though, GA's acting was brilliant there. although it did bring us back onto the theme of scully wanting to have a 'normal' life. it always seems to me there's more behind that, thats not explained. if she feels like that, why doesn't she do something about it? but the scenes between them were really quite emotional, especially when he revealed he'd been in washington for 10 years.

the scene in the temple was also confusing to me at first. i'm not quite sure what the vision was supposed to mean, or the one in scully's dream either. looks like someone's gonna have to help me out!

thats all i can think of at the moment! overall i did really like it, i just thought it was just as complicated as a mytharc ep and with just as many unanswered questions! :)

going on holiday tommorow, so won't be back till thursday at the lastest. i shall have to get my trusty tape recorder out! have a good week.......

cvl:)
