Subject: Mulder lets them push him around

Aack! This archiving thing is driving me batty!

This is in response to G-WW's post in the archive:

I agree characters like this can always add an interesting demension to the show. But we can still not like them. Fowley added some things to the show too and well...who liked her? (Don't everyone raise your hands at once!).

But as far as mothers go, Mrs Scully beats Mrs. Mulder by a mile.

Mulder always semed to have hard time standing up to his parents. If he fought back against their abuse then we neer saw it. A lot of that has to do with the overwhelming guilt he feels about Sam being taken while on his watch. Notice how, whenever he talks about her abduction he says, "she was taken away from ME" as if she belonged to him. He was in charge that night and still feels like he let the family down when Sam disappeared. So any behavior displayed by his mother and father in regard to how they treat him he may feel he deserves. He's the bad child who screwed up and hurt his parents because the good child was taken away.

So I don't think he would fight back against his mother's bad treatment. Remember how he practically cowered before his father in Colony/End Game when he had once again "lost" Samantha? He's a very beaten boy where his parents are concerned.
