The only answer I know is that at the end, Scully puts Mulder's hat back on his head.

I, too, miss Scully wearing her glasses and doing the voiceover. Ah, those were the days.

I'm not convinced that CSM is Mulder's father or that Diana is dead. I think CSM wants to plant a seed of doubt in Mulder's mind as an attempt to control Mulder. Mulder wouldn't kill his father, would he? (If he won't kill his mother, he certainly won't kill his father!)

As far as Diana is concerned, unless I see the body, I don't believe it. And even if I see the body I'd probably still have doubts. But if she is dead, I credit Krycek. Or possibly Skinner, who did it after being threatened by Krycek.

I loved your ideas about the boy on the beach. I think that's the best theory I've heard.
