I happened to come across a teaser for the show from an old magazine from back when they were "previewing" TV shows for the 1992 season (when XF debuted). It said, in part, that: "He's a believer. She's a sceptic. Together, they investigate unusual cases for the F.B.I. Sometimes he's right. Sometimes she is."
Woulnd't you say they've strayed, just a bit, not only during this season but throughout the one run of the series, from that premise? I mean, how many times have we seen an ep where Scully is completely right and Mulder looks like a total moron? In "Field Trip" I guess she was more right than he was. There was, after all, a natural, scientific explanation for the deaths, even though it didn't match her original hypothesis.
