there were still folks running illegal distilleries making 'moonshine'. These individuals trusted no one (sounds like a familiar phrase) but especially anybody from the Federal Government who would shut them down and destroy their "stills" as they were called. I love to explore too but not at the end of a shotgun. We have a lot of little towns on plenty of paved roads to explore--I love the little old stores in them. Now some place on a dirt road--I am not quite so sure I want to chance it out east! Here in Minnesota you probably would end up on a dead end or an old logging road out in the middle of nowhere--close to nothing, quite literally. Nice place for a picnic though.
