It had to come didn't it - an ep which made me screw my face up at the screen in distast a la F.Emasculata. Not since that episode have I worn one of my sneery faces so much. I wasn't very impressed with this moral tale - it was quite a dull episode, as well as being icky. I wasn't even afraid for Mulder (sometimes a story just doesn't engage you enough, so you don't even get the usual sense of jeopardy - it was obvious Mulder would be OK, so I wasn't even going to *start* panicking...!)

I might have expected CSM to appear in this ep - it could have been a fantastic conspiracy ep, with cigarette smoke being used to kill people off in droves. Instead, not even the big boss of Morley tobacco got hoist with his own petard. No investigation of how far-reaching this beetle problem might be, not even any CDC 'space' suits. And shouldn't Skinner have come down with an attack of the beetles, after the main immune smoker lit up in front of him? Skinner didn't inhale any less than Mulder, I didn't think.

I have a new name for this episode: Bland X.
