Subject: All Things come to those who wait

All Things is one of my favourite episodes of Season 7. (and could be now in a Top Ten of all time favourite episodes too) Gillian wrote a very intelligent story, which looked at Scully's life, where she was going and what she wanted out of that life. The story (complete with old boyfriend!) made her see both sides of herself - the one which was career oriented, driven to succeed, logical and certain, as opposed to the one with a strong spiritual, emotional and intuitive bent.

I have been thinking about the girl with the pony tail and I have come down to the idea that she represented a spirit version of Mulder - this girl was sort of watching over Scully as she went on a bit of a journey, was clearly leading Scully to various places of discovery and personal progress and yet, when Scully confronted her - 'she' was Mulder. Very clever, I thought. After all, Scully may not have taken the 'alternative' ideas so much to heart if she had had the real Mulder looking over her shoulders. She might have stuck to her usual guns and opted to be the logical one as always. I believe that this often happens to Scully - that even if she does see the less logical path as being the right path, she can't take it for fear of being 'teased' by Mulder. She comes up with a 'spooky' suggestion at her peril.

I think it had the feeling of Dorothy looking for the Wizard of Oz, only to discover that she had everything she needed in her own back yard. It was a clear message that she belongs with Mulder and her life is with him now. (And I'm not even speaking from a shipper point of view here). I hope after this epsiode that Scully feels less like highlighting what she *hasn't* got (normal hubby, family, house) and 'embraces' what she has got: Mulder.

The opening and closing scenes were interesting: at the beginning a frustrated Scully, turning her back on Mulder on his latest fruitless investigation, and then at the end a transformed Scully, sharing her experience with Mulder, sleeping cosily on his couch, looking for all the world like she knew she belonged there. I was particularly moved by the way Mulder tucked her in. Awwwwww....

Anyone care to share their thoughts?

Daniel: "You have a life"
Scully: "I don't know what I have....maybe I want the life I didn't choose"
