Our elementary school principal insisted all the little girls wear dresses. No matter how cold it was we had to wear them! It was California but still we could have some very chilly days not to mention the evil Santa Ana winds where we had to keep a hold of our dress hems to keep them from flying up in the wind! When I got to fourth grade we got a new principal and he changed the policy and said girls could wear pants if it was cold out. But slowly we eroded that policy and started wearing pants nearly all the time. It made recess easier!

Lets not even get into Jr. High school gym clothes! :-(
