Subject: No spoilers please (just rampant speculation), but about that damn trailer- Shit, shit, shit. Can you say COP OUT?

I know absolutely NOTHING about what's going to happen in the season(???? dammit why still ????) finale, but if they do what I think they're going to do, I will be very unhappy. If you don't want to be spoiled by speculation, DON'T READ THIS. Also, if you want to go into the finale without outside opinions cluttering your perception, you shouldn't read this either. Oh, and this isn't exactly positive speculation.

It seems pretty obvious to me what's going to happen in the season finale. Mulder's going to get abducted! What a huge, stupid cop-out. Obviously FOX couldn't work out a contract with DD, but they still wanted to keep TXF on the air and they want to keep Mulder alive for the movies. CC& Co. have abandoned producing quality eps for the sake of this amazing, quirky sci-fi show and are instead letting the show be governed by the whims of ratings, especially in the mythology! Fans expressed boredom with the Samantha issue, so they axed it and came up with a one-episode explination. (Sorry, I know there were a lot of you who liked Closure, but can you really disagree with that?) The Consortium has disappeared and so has the alien theme, but wait! They're bringing that back out of nowhere so that Mulder can be abducted. Sheesh. David Duchovny's not even pregnant. If he does make any appearances in season 8, he damn well better be wearing a fatsuit.

I've said before that I miss the old mythology, but I'm really starting to realize how much so. Instead of having a mythology that is allowed to grow and develop itself, TXF has a fragmented, mix-and-match mythology that doesn't function smoothly. A good story is a beautiful machine, with individual elements that define its uniqueness and work in harmony with eachother for the function of the whole. TXF had chucked away its essential elements one by one, replacing them with different storylines that don't quite fit the machine. The mythology hasn't evolved into something different either; instead it's a wierd, confusing Frankenstein that doesn't move with a natural purpose.

I don't want to set myself up to be disappointed with this episode. I'm not doing that. For all I know, this finale could be one of my favorites. I hope I'll be surprised.
