I am sorry that Melody was not interested in talking with people with whom she may or may not disagree. I LOVE talking with people with whom I don't agree - not for the sake of arguing, but because it is stimulating and I learn so much from the experience. Sometimes I end up changing my mind, and sometimes I end up more firmly convinced than before. In any event, it always serves to rattle the old brain around and get me thinking - really thinking - about just what it is I believe or think to be correct.

I really wouldn't say that Melody is a NoRomo. She seems to object to any ep that explores character, the mytharc, the whole sam storyline, personal history or M&S's internal life. That is not being a NoRomo. That is someone who wants a purely MOTW series.

I can't imagine a person who describes themselves as being a NoRomo saying that character, etc. doesn't count. I can imagine their saying that M&S are in love with each other, but shouldn't do anything about it. I can imagine a NoRomo saying that M&S love each other like brother & sister or like platoonmates (don't ask/don't tell aside - g), but I have never heard one say issues and an exploration of character and who and what M&S are interfere with the series.

In drama, character informs choice, just as choice, chance and circumstance in turn shape character. If all CC ever intended for M&S was a pair of warm bodies to serve as the "backdrop" for the paranormal, then I can't imagine why he had Mulder reveal the story of his sister's disappearance in the very first ep. Mulder's personal history, motivations and interior life would be completely irrevelant if all CC ever intended was a scarefest. Without these elements, TXF is a "police proceedural" of the paranormal, a "Dragnet" about ghosts. Don't get me wrong - I love those Jack Webb series...

I can understand someone's getting tired of the mytharc, the whole Sam thing, the self-dialogue that goes on and longing for a straightforward "just the facts, ma'am" rock 'em sock 'em MOTW ep. We had that in "Hungry" and "Chimera". TXF has always been about the nature of perception, faith/belief, and truth. And it has been ever since Mulder told Scully that story so long ago, IMHO.

It is fun to discuss differing POV. It is fun, challenging and perks you up. That's why I am glad we have NoRomos, Fencesitters, Shippers, Scullists and Mulderists here. What a huge bore it would be if we were all the same!

IOT, who always respects people in the morning AND always makes breakfast to boot...

Waffles, anyone?
