Excellent post, hairytoes. I *love* the idea of Steve & Edie as a parallel to M&S. There's no question in my mind which one is Mulder.

I watched again last night and kept rewinding this scene to try to figure out Scully's reaction. Her back is to the camera and she hesitates after Mulder says that, like she's going to either say something or whip around and punch him. I like your idea that she flipped him off but we just couldn't see it.

LOL! I was also wondering what the reaction would be. Can't you hear Mrs. Scully? "Oh, Dana. It's a good thing your father isn't alive to see this." Ok, so Mrs. Scully wouldn't say that, but Bill Jr. would.
