Thank you, hairytoes, because now I have something to like about the episode. Not the worst episode, but far, far from the best.

The whole "gee, you keep me guessing" gag got really old. After the third time I was thinking all right already! We get it! It could have been interesting if the writers had thought to put a different spin on it instead of Mulder always telling us what was going on. Since when do the writers on XF patronize the audience?! And once Mulder announced to us that this was the gag again, that was it! I was expecting some witty repartee between my favorite duo, but no, not witty and not repartee. Stilted dialogue is more like it.

And why, oh, why did they take the doctor and his daughter TO A CABIN OUT IN THE WOODS? Ooo, bet something really scary is gonna happen out there! Boogita-boogita. Doesn't the FBI have a safehouse somewhere, even in California? And for Scully to go by herself? Puh-leez.

And would Scully really fire her gun if she couldn't see her target? Oh, I don't think so. What if Mulder had shown up right then? Sure, she's shot him before, but at least then she knew what she was doing.

And would Scully say that she thought Peetie might have been able to save his daughter? Yeah. Uh-huh. And I live in Kansas and have a dog named Toto.

And the perpetual gripe - don't you think that once Scully shot Peetie she might want to *think* about administering first aid (since we see at the end he is, in fact, still alive) instead of standing around looking at a doll whose eyes have been poked out? We know she's a doctor - she told us so in X-Cops. Hey, Scully! Maybe if you practiced medicine once in awhile you wouldn't have to kill patients with heavy doses of morphine.

And this from a Scully worshipper! Scully is my hero! I love Scully! I want to be Scully!

I might have liked Peetie if I could have understood a word he said. "Mumble mumble mumble" is all I ever heard.

One scene did get a reaction out of me - that was the microwaving of the wife. Eeeewwwwww!!!!! Gotta admit that had me smiling.

Ok, now that I've ranted and raved, I think I may place this one BELOW Terms of Endearment. At least Terms had some interesting scenes.

krh, who is thinking of using her voodoo doll on the writers
