I know what you mean dev and the motivations that you outlined are probably the reason CC decided to insert 'Never Again' inbetween 'LB' & 'MM'. That said, I can't believe Scully didn't allow herself even a moments contemplation about her cancer in 'NA'. She had plenty of time alone in the ep & was already in an introspective frame of mind. She never appears to be concealing something from Mulder, in fact this episode seems to be about her speaking her mind & expressing herself. Even when Mulder is being insensitive, which he is for most of this ep, she never looks like she is anything but annoyed with his dismissals. There is no tell-tale defensive Scully that we witnessed in 'Irresistible' when she was trying to conceal the fact that the Pfaster events were very disturbing for her. Mulder's sensitivity on that occasion should have assured her this time around. Which brings us to 'Momento Mori' where Scully has no reservations at all about confiding in Mulder, she even tells him before her mother.
So thats why I find the cancer related 'Never Again' a little bit too contrived.

XXX Sig :)
