I'm saying that she is *avoiding* a surrogate version of him - e.g. a lovely, warm, interesting, in-this-world guy. This would be a betrayal of Mulder - an actual rival with great characteristics. I am saying that she goes away from potential Mulder replacements, and fills the gap in her life with extreme fantasy men, who she (and Mulder!) knows are not really for her and will not make her happy. What the fantasy men *do* do, however, is remind her that she is attractive and desirable. And a by-product of this,IMO, is that surely she wants Mulder to notice her behaviour and to intervene.
