Great question! WE have been told that DCS will not investigate such a case unless there is physical signs of sores, etc. from the lice. However, when a child is continuously sent home due to lice, it can be considered educational neglect because parents are not providing the care necessary for adequate educational opportunities. DCS should probably be called for a few severe cases in our county, but let's face it...it is hard enough for them to deal with severe abuse cases due to the lack of funds for needed personnel. Frustrating, huh?
