Now, technically, a working gunblade couldnt happen. You all obviously havent played final fantasy 8 enough times like a crack addict, or you would know that the gunblade DOES use a type of ammunition, but it isnt shot. It IS used as a kick system to give the weapon that added punch (i.e. pressing R1 in the game right before squall hits the target.), and thus, could just be a blank round (I think, ive never studied ammo types) that could give the same jar as a revolver shot. The blade however, would have to be molded from either a) Honeycombed steel, so it has a nice strength but lightweight, or b) an aluminum composite material. The aluminum is the less expensive of the two materials, but its harder to work with, and breaks a lot easier. The griphon design on the gunblade could be either laser etched on or acid etched on, either one it doesnt matter, but lasers, as we all know, are much more accurate, and thus, the better choice. The blade design (i.e. curve and sharpness) would be the only problem with the front half of the weapon. The blade tapers in a "V" design from a front view, and a light "c" curve from the side. Using this combination of cuts in the metal actually weakens the entire structure of the blade, causing cracking or weak spots. Also, the sheer weight of the blade would probably snap it right off of the revolver gun part of the gunblade. Now for the revolver part. No gun in the world has the right kind of kick to create a downward kick, so any kind of slash like squall's in final fantasy 8's battles wouldnt work. Ever. However, in the begining of the game, during the intro, Squall attack seifer with a bottom left to upper right slash, which, if given the propper kick at the right time, would be a devastating attack. The gun could be some kind of modified Revolver, a larger model, probably something to hunt boar's. The type of ammunition would have to be about the size of a shotgun shell, but without the pellets. The handle to the gun could easily be crafted by a decent blacksmith or even an engineer. The chain at the end is sold on Ebay for about $20-$30 dollars. Put these together and what do you get. Roughly 4-6 grand in the hole, but a disturbingly accurate gunblade. Now, after all of that, I will say yes, i am in college, and i am studying mechanical engineering. A gunblade is ALMOST impossible to make, but not entirely. My classes final project is to make something functional. And I am making a gunblade. I will update as i make it, and will sell it on ebay at the end of the summer. check in with me if you want updates
