I saw some preview beforehand where it showed the vertebra spinning but I didn't know what it was then. I immediately thought of the artifact from The Sixth extinction. I'm sure they both must operate by the same "power".

The spinning vertebra also reminded me of the Terminator movie when all that was left of Arnold was the metal guy and he just wouldn't die! Or Robert Patrick as the liquid metal alien who was able to reform himself even after being killed.
