Subject: Something X said in Season 4 (or 3?) connected with Essence (spoilers)

Before seeing this episode (Essence) and thinking what was in store from the previews it made me remember that rather chilling statement of X's to Scully in an earlier episode. He was talking about Mrs. Mulder at the time but remember when he said,

"Protect the mother."

Even though I doubt CC had this all worked out back then, it sure resonates very strongly now! In that ep, I was never sure why protecting Mrs. M was so important anyway. If we pretend that way back then X was somehow letting Scully know about her own destiny that would be really impressive storytelling!
