Subject: A question about Mrs. Doggett/Mrs. RP

My main question is: are they the same person?? That is, did they use RP's real-life wife to play Doggy's wife (or is it ex-wife?? While they obviously didn't live together, in my limited viewing of seasons eight and nine, I was never clear on whether they were divorced or just separated) on XF? Seems like I read somewhere that they did cast his real life wife for the part.
Anyway, if they did, was there a lot of bad reaction to it? Because on the JAG boards, everybody is always grousing that the series star (David James Elliott) negotiated a supporting role in the series for his wife (Nanci Chambers) as part of his latest contract. They keep saying she only got the role because she's married to him and my reaction is sort of like. . "Well, duh! *OF COURSE* she got the role because she's sleeping with the star of the series! But at least they're married." Anyway, maybe I'm cynical, but I think a *LOT* of casting decisions in Hollywood are based more on "who you know" than "what you know".
IMHO, it makes sense to cast married actors and actresses as married couples in shows. For all that people say that "It's only acting and it's just a job and it doesn't mean anything" there have been numerous examples of actors and actresses who got involved in real life with the person who was playing their love interest on screen (i.e. Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe; Michael Weatherly and Jessica Alba) and it seems that you just avoid even the possibiltiy of that problem by casting people who are married in real life to play each other's husband/wife on screen.
