I wonder if Denzel Washington. . .

was a fan of "The Lone Gunmen"?? He cast Stephen Snedden in one of the key roles in his new movie and I don't think SS has been in much else other than "TLG".
Of course, I really don't know how the whole casting thing works. I don't know if directors/producers call up some actor they like and ask them to audition or if the actors and actresses call and ask to be considered for the part or what. I know with regard to the XF leads, CC had apparently seen DD in some other stuff and asked him to audition for the role of Mulder; but GA must have approached him, because she hadn't really *been* in anything else prior to XF.
