I have mixed feelings about Skinner murdering Krycek. There is no doubt in my mind that MURDER is the correct term for what Skinner did. The first shot was warranted; Krycek *appeared* to be about to shoot Mulder (whether or not he would have is arguable). Skinner shot Krycek to keep him from killing Mulder. Ok, I buy that. The second shot seemed understandable as well. Krycek was reaching for his gun (was he trying to pick it up? I don't think so), so Skinner shot him again. The final shot to the forehead was *legally* unjustifiable. Krycek was surrenduring. Even if he hadn't been surrenduring, he was no longer a danger to Mulder or Skinner.

Now, was Skinner personally justified in killing Krycek? Sure, Krycek has done many terrible things. He did kill Mulder's father among other atrocities (though, as a Krycek loyalist, I feel compelled to point out that Krycek did NOT kill Melissa Scully, it was Luis Cardinal). However, the question to be asked is not "Did Krycek deserve to die?" It is "When is it acceptable to take the law into our own hands?" As I'm not a proponent of anarchy, I think the answer to this question should be "never". I know, I know, it's extreme to say that Skinner's murder of Krycek could lead to anarchy, but it is wrong to accept the murder because Krycek is just so *bad*. I don't know anyone who supports lynchings, though indeed the lynched party might be guilty. Bottom line, Skinner let his personal feelings interfere with his job.

I oppose Skinner's murder of Krycek as well as Scully's murder of Donnie Pfaster. I'm certain there will never be any kind of investigation into Krycek's death. It's not important to the plot or arc of the show. Krycek is gone; Nick Lea no longer wants to be Krycek, and with Mulder gone Krycek lost his foil and his usefulness.

But I digress. If you watch Existence, Skinner was not acting like himself during the entire exchange. It's quite possible that Krycek drove Skinner to temporary insanity. The combination of everything Krycek had done over the years to Mulder, Scully, Skinner and anyone else, with the final act of Krycek leaving Skinner to die at the hands of Billy Miles (though Billy Miles wasn't after Skinner, he was after Krycek and I think he would have walked right past Skinner) pushing Skinner right over the edge. Because Skinner certainly seemed a little crazy in the scene where Krycek dies. I noticed it. Mulder noticed it. America (those in America who still watch) noticed it. So...maybe it wasn't Skinner's fault that Krycek died. I'm sure that if we could see Skinner later, if we could hear Skinner's thoughts later after everything cooled down, we would hear him second guessing himself for what he did. Perhaps even feeling guilty. As he should.

Whew.

That being said, I wanted to address Islandgirl's inquiry as to why people, females in particular, like Krycek as a character. Since I'm one of the women who enjoys Krycek, I thought's I'd offer my insight.

When I think of Alex Krycek one word comes to the front of my mind: passion. Every scene Krycek is in is infused with passion. Whether he is in an inexperienced agent trying desperately to please Mulder, an enemy of the constortium making out with Marita, or a betrayer throwing the Smoking Man down the steps, everything he does has so much passion. It's sexy. Sure, if he looked like Frohike it wouldn't have the same affect, but it's not about his looks. I believe that Krycek believes in what he is doing. That doesn't make his means right; it's the same as Skinner taking the law into his own hands. But it doesn't diminish the fact that Krcyek is full of intensity and passion and purpose. All of those adds up to sensuality and attractiveness and a character that is more interesting and compelling than any other on the show.
