I actually preferred the Mulder/Doggett pairing in "Vienen" over the Mulder/Krycek partnership of season two. "Vienen" was oddly appealing in a buddy cop/action movie sort of way. . .it just wasn't very "X-Filey" and, coming as it did at a time when we Philes were *desperate* for a renewal of the Mulder/Scully partnership, I wasn't in much of a mood to appreciate it.
